Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation Ceremony - Proclamation reading of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by Taylor County Judge, Mr. Downing A. Bolls, Jr., with Taylor County Child Welfare Board and Community Partners. There will also be a display of 380 pairs of donated shoes on the courthouse steps - one pair of shoes for each child removed due to abuse or neglect in 2018. Candlelight Vigil to Honor Child Abuse Victims - The Taylor County Child Welfare Board and Community Partners invite the public to join together for a candlelight vigil to honor the 211 children who lost their lives to child abuse or neglect in Texas in 2018, including one child in Taylor County. Webinar: How to Identify and Report Child Abuse in Texas, Manchaca Road Branch, Austin Public Library - 5500 Manchaca Road
Description: Have you ever wanted to know what goes into making decisions about child abuse and neglect at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services? This free presentation will give you vital information on recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect in Texas. We will discuss the definitions and types of abuse and neglect according to the Texas Family Code. We will also discuss signs and symptoms of child abuse. The presentation will detail prevalence of child abuse in Texas and the basics of reporting to Statewide Intake (the Abuse Hotline).

This 60-minute documentary explains the research into Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Bowie High School Cafeteria, 341 US Hwy 287 North Access. All Montague County teachers are invited.

Memorial Park and Blue Ribbon Display - The Stephens County Child Welfare Board will organize a Memorial Park on the Courthouse Lawn of White Glittered Angels with solar lights for night viewing in honor of the children who died from abuse and neglect in Texas. Courthouse trees will be tied with blue ribbons and have empty shoes hanging from them in honor of the Stephens County Foster Children. Wichita Falls

Throughout April Patsy's House Pinwheel Ceremony - Patsy's House Children's Advocacy Center places pinwheels representing each abused child in Wichita County on its lawn. Public is invited to take down a pinwheel for a $20 donation. This fun-filled event kicks off a month-long fundraiser and helps bring awareness to child abuse in the community.
