OP-ED: We don't tolerate child abuse by parents, and we shouldn't tolerate it from our government

TexProtects strongly condemns the continued separation of migrant children from their families, in contravention of both a presidential order ending the policy and a court order to reunify families. Separation of children from their families is a traumatic action that should only be taken by child protection officials as a last resort to save a child’s life – not as a punitive instrument of policy.

We lay no claim to immigration policy expertise and will not suggest actions to be taken to solve the border crisis. But we do know what actions should not be taken – willfully inflicting harm on children cannot be an option.
